Samsung Electronics hosted the World Cyber Games US Invitational May 15-17 with three different events each day at its Samsung Experience in the Time Warner Center in New York City. New this year, the brand invited cast members of the popular Sci-Fi gamer reality show “WCG Ultimate Gamer” as a treat to fans.
“Every year we’re trying to add new elements to the World Cyber Games at the Samsung Experience,” David Steel, svp-North America headquarters strategic marketing at Samsung, says. “We want to make the Samsung Experience part destination for events and also part brand showcase for our products. Now that the brand is becoming better known it’s evolving how we use the space, so we’re adding much more events now to make it a place that people come through for various types of events, like the World Cyber Games.”
The weekend kicked off with the WCG Ultimate Gamer Fan Event that brought in cast members from “WCG Ultimate Gamer” for a Q&A session for fans. The second day, one of the show’s runner-ups, Robert Paz, played to break a Guinness World Record on Rock Band 2. Officials from the Guinness World Record monitored as Paz spent more than six consecutive hours on his ion drums where he amassed well over ten and a half million points to hold the Official Guinness World Record for the highest aggregate score in all songs of Rock Band 2. That day and the next, Top US Gamers and Team USA competed to go to the WCG USA National Final; in November ultimate winners will compete in the Grand Final in Chengdu, China.
